What is the Teen Choices program?
Teen Choices is the abstinence education division of the Pregnancy Resource
Center of SW Oklahoma. In 2001, the Teen Choices program began teaching
relationship education with a focus on abstinence until marriage in the
Lawton, OK area. Our three-day interactive presentation fits into a
variety of individual classroom situations. Generally we like to reach
an entire grade level of students. Therefore, we try to reach core
classes like science in junior high and English in high school. Also,
our elementary program targets 5th and 6th grade
students. We look forward to serving you and your students in the future!
Three-Day Presentation Outline for Secondary Schools
Day One:
Opening - Speaker introduces himself, and explains how the choices
the students make will impact their future. The Choices Demonstration is performed.
Five to Fifteen Year Goals - The students are asked to give their
personal goals for five, ten, and fifteen years. This helps encourage
them to plan for and protect goals.
Maturity and Sexual Decision Making - The three R's of maturity are
discussed: Responsibility, Respect, Restraint.
Define Abstinence - The definition of abstinence is explained and
examples are given to strengthen the student's understanding.
Reasons for Sexual Activity - The students are asked to give their
opinions as to why some teens are choosing to engage in sexual activity.
Possible Results of Sexual Activity - This section includes a discussion
of the possible results of sexual activity. A demonstration is performed
in order to visually illustrate the emotional damage that premarital sexual
activity can cause. This gives the students an opportunity to see how
engaging in premarital sexual activity can put their future goals at risk.
Closing of First Day - Any questions that the students have will be
received and the idea of Starting Over is mentioned.
Day Two:
Review from Day One - The key concepts from day one are highlighted and
clearly stated again. This allows any student who may have missed day one
an opportunity to understand the key points.
Progression of Sexual Activity - The physical progression is discussed
and the safe intimate zone and danger zones are explained. A demonstration
is performed to illustrate the dangers of sexually transmitted diseases and the
Sexual Exposure Chart is presented. The students are encouraged where to
draw the line physically in a relationship so they can be successful at being
abstinent.
Brain and Sex - The students are taught about the trained response of
the brain.
Date Rape Prevention - Students are given steps to protect themselves
against date rape.
Closing of Second Day - Any questions that the students have will be
received and the idea of Starting Over is mentioned again.
Day Three:
Review from Day One and Two - The key concepts from the first two days
are reviewed.
Intimacy Levels - Real intimacy is defined, and the different levels of
intimacy are discussed. The students are shown the difference between real
intimacy and sex and the different types of love that occur in relationships.
Love vs. Infatuation - The difference between love and infatuation is explored.
How to Deal with Negative Peer Pressure - Students are given three steps
to deal with negative peer pressure and then are given opportunity to role-play
some of the ideas.
Secondary Virginity/Starting Over - Students are shown that even though they
may have been sexually active, they can choose a healthier lifestyle and they are
given practical steps to make this change.
Closing and Evaluation - Abstinence is again defined. The students
are presented with the opportunity to take "The Challenge". The students are
encouraged to fill out evaluation forms on the presentation.

"For the amount of time dedicated to this program, I felt that it was excellent!
I was impressed because the program very definitely engaged the interest of 99% of my
students." 8th Grade Science Teacher - Tomlinson Junior High
"This program is extremely valuable to the health and welfare of our students.
I doubt that even 1% of these students have ever received a frank explanation of the
risks of sexual promiscuity. If even one student rethinks his or her position,
it may save a life." 10th Grade English Teacher - MacArthur High School
"This material is wonderful. I found it useful as an educator as well as a
young adult faced with these situations. Presenters did a great job using real
demonstrations to grab students attention and relate it to real situations."
6th Grade Teacher - Hugh Bish Elementary
